ואמר דוד בלביה דלמא אתמסיר יומא חד בידא דשאול לית לי מדעם דטב ארי אשתיזבא אשתיזב לארע פלשתאי וינוח מני שאול למבעני עוד בכל תחום ארעא דישראל ואשתיזיב מן ידיה:
ydyh mn washthyzyb dyshral area thkhwm bkl ewd lmbeny shawl mny wynwkh plshthay lare ashthyzb ashthyzba ary dTb mdem ly lyth dshawl byda khd ywma athmsyr dlma blbyh dwd wamr
David said in his heart, “I will now perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul will despair of me, to seek me any more in all the borders of Israel. So I will escape out of his hand.”

וקם דוד ועבר הוא ושית מאה גברא דעמיה לות אכיש בר מעוך מלכא דגת:
dgth mlka mewk br akysh lwth demyh gbra mah wshyth hwa webr dwd wqm
David arose and passed over, he and the six hundred men who were with him, to Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath.

ויתיב דוד עם אכיש בגת הוא וגברוהי גבר ואנש ביתיה דוד ותרתין נשוהי אחנועם דמיזרעאל ואביגיל אתת נבל דמכרמלא:
dmkrmla nbl athth wabygyl dmyzreal akhnwem nshwhy wthrthyn dwd bythyh wansh gbr wgbrwhy hwa bgth akysh em dwd wythyb
David lived with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, even David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal’s wife.

ואתחוא לשאול ארי ערק דוד לגת ולא אוסיף עוד למבעוהי:
lmbewhy ewd awsyp wla lgth dwd erq ary lshawl wathkhwa
Saul was told that David had fled to Gath, so he stopped looking for him.

ואמר דוד לאכיש אם כען אשכחית רחמין בעינך יתנון לי אתר בחדא מן קרוי חקלא ואתיב תמן ולמא יתיב עבדך בקירות מלכותא עמך:
emk mlkwtha bqyrwth ebdk ythyb wlma thmn wathyb khqla qrwy mn bkhda athr ly ythnwn beynk rkhmyn ashkkhyth ken am lakysh dwd wamr
David said to Achish, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, let them give me a place in one of the cities in the country, that I may dwell there. For why should your servant dwell in the royal city with you?”

ויהב ליה אכיש ביומא ההוא ית צקלג בכן הות צקלג למלכיא דבית יהודה עד יומא הדין:
hdyn ywma ed yhwdh dbyth lmlkya tsqlg hwth bkn tsqlg yth hhwa bywma akysh lyh wyhb
Then Achish gave him Ziklag that day: therefore Ziklag belongs to the kings of Judah to this day.

והוה מנין יומיא דיתיב דוד בקרוי פלשתאי יומין עדן בעדן וארבעא ירחין:
yrkhyn warbea bedn edn ywmyn plshthay bqrwy dwd dythyb ywmya mnyn whwh
The number of the days that David lived in the country of the Philistines was a full year and four months.

וסליק דוד וגברוהי ואתנגידו על גשוראי ועל גזראי ועמלקאי ארי אינון יתבת ארעא דמעלמא מעלנא דחגרא ועד ארעא דמצרים:
dmtsrym area wed dkhgra melna dmelma area ythbth aynwn ary wemlqay gzray wel gshwray el wathngydw wgbrwhy dwd wslyq
David and his men went up and raided the Geshurites, the Girzites, and the Amalekites; for those were the inhabitants of the land who were of old, on the way to Shur, even to the land of Egypt.

ומחי דוד ית יתבי ארעא ולא מקים גבר ואתא ושבא עאן ותורין וחמרין וגמלין ונסיב לבושין ותאיב ואתי לות אכיש:
akysh lwth wathy wthayb lbwshyn wnsyb wgmlyn wkhmryn wthwryn ean wshba watha gbr mqym wla area ythby yth dwd wmkhy
David struck the land, and saved no man or woman alive, and took away the sheep, the cattle, the donkeys, the camels, and the clothing. Then he returned, and came to Achish.

ואמר אכיש לאן אתנגדתון יומא דין ואמר דוד על דרום יהודה ועל דרום ירחמאלה ולדרום שלמאה:
shlmah wldrwm yrkhmalh drwm wel yhwdh drwm el dwd wamr dyn ywma athngdthwn lan akysh wamr
Achish said, “Against whom have you made a raid today?” David said, “Against the South of Judah, against the South of the Jerahmeelites, and against the South of the Kenites.”

וגבר ואתא לא מקים דוד לאיתאה לגת למימר דלמא יחוון עלנא למימר כדין עבד דוד וכדין הות הלכתיה כל יומין דהוה יתיב בקירוי פלשתאי:
plshthay bqyrwy ythyb dhwh ywmyn kl hlkthyh hwth wkdyn dwd ebd kdyn lmymr elna ykhwwn dlma lmymr lgth laythah dwd mqym la watha wgbr
David saved neither man nor woman alive to bring them to Gath, saying, “Lest they should tell about us, saying, ‘David did this, and this has been his way all the time he has lived in the country of the Philistines.’”
